The Brooklyn College Alumni Opera Collective is proud to present The Telephone, a one act operetta by Gian Carlo Minotte, best known for his beloved Amahl and the Night Visitors. The Telephone, while not performed as often, is a thoroughly enjoyable work in which the composer's distinctive style of lush, romantic melodies and surprising cadence changes is evident. Here's a chance to enjoy this delightful work which is quite apropos in today's age of the ubiquitous an sometimes infuriataing cellphone.

Ben, bearing a gift, comes to visit Lucy at her apartment; he wants to propose to her before he leaves on a trip. Despite his attempts to get her attention for sufficient time to ask his question, Lucy is occupied with interminable conversations on the telephone. Between her calls, when Lucy leaves the room, Ben even takes the risk of trying to cut the telephone cord, though his attempt is unsuccessful. Not wanting to miss his train, Ben leaves without proposing. -- Wikipedia
